What comes to mind when you hear the word "bakery"? Chances are, your mind conjures images of mouth-watering desserts like cupcakes, cookies, and bars. Whether you prefer chocolate, vanilla, a combination of the two, or some other more interesting flavor, you're bound to find something worth licking your plate for at a good bakery.

While just about any bakery will have something delicious, there are some bakeries across the U.S. that have become famous. Some were thrust into the spotlight by appearing on popular television, while others have spread through word of mouth. No matter how the word spreads, these certain bakeries are probably worth going well out of your way for. Here are just a few of the U.S's famous bakeries:

Carlo's Bake Shop

Made famous by the Food Network show, "Cake Boss", Carlo's Bake Shop is located in Hoboken, New Jersey. Because of how famous the shop became, it's rumored that the lines often span a block or two. Most famous for the creative, life-like, and extremely custom cakes seen on "Cake Boss", Carlo's also sells pre-made cakes, cookies, and pastries. They also have cake decorating classes that they offer to the public. They now have a second show on the Food Network, called "The Next Great Baker".

Cupcake

Located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Cupcake became famous when owner Kevin VanDeraa won "Cupcake Wars" on the Food Network. After winning, Cupcake was able to open a second shop in the renowned Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. With gourmet cupcake flavors like pumpkin cream, chocolate peanut butter, mocha, lemon blueberry, and more, you're sure to find something you'll like! They also have a cafe, where the serve fresh sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfast items.

Baked Bakery

This cleverly named bakery is located in Brooklyn, New York. It has been featured in magazines such as Food & Wine, Saveur, The New Yorker, USA Today, and more. The bakery has also been featured on television, on shows such as "Martha Stewart" and "The Best Thing I Ever Ate". No matter what your sweet tooth is craving, Baked Bakery's got you covered. From cakes and cookies to whoopie pies, homemade marshmallows, and bars, they make just about anything you can imagine at a bakery.

Sprinkles

Advertised as "the world's first cupcake bakery", the original Sprinkles is located in Beverly Hills, California, but has expanded to many major cities such as Chicago, Dallas, New York, and Palo Alto. They've expanded to not only sell many original and creative flavors of cupcakes, but also sugar decorations, cupcake toppers, and cupcake trays. Sprinkles also recently opened an ice cream shop in Beverly Hills, right next door to their cupcake shop, where they sell many different flavors of ice cream, as well as fresh cookies.
