When it comes to decorating your laundry room, you should approach it like any other such subject – with lots finesse and tactfulness. You want your laundry room to be both fabulous and functional and no compromises are allowed. Even though you probably won't invite people there (I certainly hope so) you still need to make it nice and cozy for yourself. And what can be more fabulicious than...
Adding a few shelfs
It baffles me beyond measure why people don't add more shelves in their laundry rooms. A few stainless steel shelves with a nice artificial countertop on your washing machine will open so much extra space for you to keep your laundry detergents and fabric softeners on. They will also give it that nice simplistic look we enjoy so much when we see in movies. Furthermore, they are easy to clean and especially durable so there is nothing to worry about. It's the perfect combination between functionality and aesthetics.
Making the place look bigger
Unless you live in a mansion, I imagine your laundry room is pretty small, like most. However, there is a way to make it look bigger. All you have to do is use light colors and tones. The lighter they are, the better. Decorating with wood or metal (depending on your preference) will give the place that unique feel you are looking for and the sole reason for bothering with the decoration of the room in the first place. You can add a few personal touches to make it feel truly unparalleled.
Adding a few baskets
You can add a few baskets to the place. It's delightful how well they blend in with any interior. In order to make this more functional, you can add several baskets of different sizes around the room and keep different types of clothes there. Instead of keeping all the clothes in the same basket, you can have one for sheets, another one for white clothes, another one for colored clothes, one for socks, etc. This way it will be much easier for you to plan your laundry and you will be able to see what's more demanding at the certain moment, essentially combining beauty and efficiency once again.
Make sure everything “hits the wall”
You want everything in your laundry room to be right next to the wall. You want your washing machine to be in a center place and you need to have easy movement throughout the premises. You must make it so that noting is your way and when you are in the middle the room, everything is literally an arm away from you and really easy to reach. This way the room will look neat and you will be able to do everything really easily because all you need will be easily reachable and the lack of obstacles on the way will significantly improve your efficiency.
Cabinets and drawers
Adding cabinets and drawers can be either used as an alternative to the shelfs, or better yet – as an addition. The cabinets will give you even more space to work with inside and if they're wooden or light in color, will make the place look and feel bigger, combining utility with style.
Lighting
Make sure the place is always well lit. This way it will be easier for you to do your laundry but it will also give it a more lively look and feel. Otherwise it might end up being that dark closet you hate walking into because it's small, annoying and dark.
A nice floor comprised of white or light tiles will additionally provide the place with a neat and tidy look, while at the same time matching the rest of the room. A wooden floor would be irresponsible, since there are chances that water might fall on it and damage it.
If you put all tips into use, you should have a much better time doing laundry in a room that actually makes you feel good.
