Tasty Holiday Treats
Whether it’s Christmas, Thanksgiving or Easter… the food is always on the top of everyone’s list. People just love to eat, especially during the holidays. Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa go all out when cooking during the holidays. They bake everything from stuffed olives to stuffed shells. They cook enough for an army and no one complains. Any food that isn’t eaten usually becomes left-overs for lunches or a delicious homemade soup. People really love to indulge during the festive occasions, but what treats are the absolute favorites?
Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes can be made in a variety of ways and they all taste incredible. A mix of sweet and salty comes together for the perfect side dish to any holiday dinner. The sweetness comes from starches and oils that intensify when cooked. Plus, even though they taste so good, sweet potatoes are really good for you. They are an excellent source of Vitamin C, fiber and potassium. Tastes great AND good for you? Sounds too good to be true… but it’s not.
Cranberries
From cranberry sauce to cranberry salad, you can’t go wrong. So fresh, so tasty and so… healthy? That’s right; cranberries are rich in fiber and potassium, which makes them a perfect holiday side dish that can keep you on your diet. Not only are cranberries delicious, the Native Americans and Pilgrims also shared them back in the 1600’s. So delicious, they stand the test of time… and then some.
Hot Cocoa
Now who doesn’t love a nice cup of hot cocoa on a cold winter night? Everyone loves cocoa, especially us chocolate lovers. This sweet treat goes down smooth on any winter night and there’s nothing better. Sit back, relax and remember to load up on the marshmallows.
Turkey
Gobble, gobble! Everything goes with turkey, especially during the holidays. Gravy, stuffing, stuffed olives, potatoes and the list goes on and on. Turkey is not only a very low calorie meal; it’s a great source of protein as well. Now that’s a win-win. Dark meat, white meat, with skin or not… turkey isn’t for everyone, but it’s for most. The best part? Turkey leftovers, yum!
Pumpkin flavored… anything!
The holiday season means pumpkin treats are back and there’s nothing better. All year long we look forward to those 3 incredible months when we can enjoy pumpkin spiced coffee, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie and much, much more.
