The Importance Of A White Smile

Share:
A lot of people are insecure about their smile, and no matter how perfectly straight their teeth are, if they’re discolored they won’t be happy. There are many reasons why white teeth are important and the reasons are not just cosmetic.

The most important reason for a pearly white smile is for your own health. If your teeth are white it means that they’re healthy and strong; discoloured or yellowing teeth are a sign of plaque or tartar build up. Plaque can be removed but if you start to get a build-up of tartar then it will be impossible to remove without the help of a dentist. These build ups can lead to other problems such as cavities, bad breath and even gum disease.

Appearance is another reason that you should look after your teeth. Your smile is often the first thing that someone will notice about you and first impressions are important. If your self-conscious about your teeth then it’s hard to feel good about yourself when out in public. People are taught from a young age that it is inner beauty is more important that outer beauty, which is true, but a lot of women won’t go out without their makeup on and men won’t go out without doing their hair so why would you go out without looking after your teeth?

Your confidence will be much higher with a healthy white smile. No matter how much you try and hide your teeth you still know that people will see them and the first thing that you think is that they’re judging you for having bad teeth. Depending on the severity of any problems that you have, this may or may not be the case, but the point is that your teeth affect the way that you feel about yourself so a brighter, whiter smile will make you feel much better and a lot more confident. Many people with discoloured teeth try to avoid smiling or laughing as much as possible, this in turn prevents you from being happy and this is even more of a reason to consider teeth whitening treatments.

White teeth could get you a better job. If you have a job that requires you to meet with customers or clients then your employer will be less likely to send you out to meetings if you’re teeth do not look healthy. When at work you are a representation of the company, so you are less likely to get a role that requires customer interaction if you have bad teeth because clients may not see you as reliable.
Getting a white smile doesn’t have to be expensive. There are many home treatment kits that will easily make a difference and they’re available at local supermarkets. If you wish to spend more then you could of course consider visiting a dentist for professional whitening.
